<p>Well over 50% of Americans are overweight and in danger of obesity.  But, “SeD” which is short for “Sedentary Death Syndrome” is becoming a national concern to medical professionals.  It does not take much to break this inactivity cycle.  Only 3 hours a week of brisk walking or minor exercise will decrease your risk of SeD by more than 30%.  So, GET MOVING!</p>

This generally occurs after a few weeks on the LEAN System. Don&#8217;t despair. You&#8217;re still loosing weight but you may be &#8216;trading pounds&#8217;. What we mean by that is the pounds you are loosing may be replaced by lean muscle mass which is 5 times heavier in weight and 5 times smaller in mass. Remember, for most of us, we are eating a lot more protein than we&#8217;ve ever eaten before and, hopefully, you have redirected your exercise efforts to maximize fat burn.<span id="more-2099"></span></p>
<p>The impact of a protein increase in your diet means the rebuilding of muscle mass that has been heretofore lost while on other diet programs. Lean muscle mass weighs 5 times more than fat for the same physical size so, when your body becomes leaner, it actually becomes heavier even though your body fat percentage is greatly reduced. Customers have reported going from 37% body fat to as low at 17% and being thinner, leaner and HEAVIER than they have been when previously at goal weight. <p>Growing evidence suggests that whites in this country also burn more calories while not engaged in any more physical activity than blacks. Another interesting fact is that the U.S. reports about 52% of black women are obese (average weight of 224 pounds) compared with 33% white women. America&#8217;s preoccupation with thinness might explain the motivation for white women to maintain a lower body weight, however, lifestyle factors, diet and cultural differences all play a significant part in the incidence of obesity, no matter what your color.</p>
<p>Anybody with a weight problem can be helped if that is their personal desire. Evaluating your eating patterns and identifying the possible causes of your overweight condition is the first step.</p>

Type 2 diabetes has jumped 33% in the last 10 years and diet is credited as the main cause. This staggering statistic has affected our youth even more than adults. Perhaps because kids are the greatest targets when it comes to “toxic food environments” and “junk food marketing”. They are now seen by big companies as profit centers not precious and worth protecting.</p>
<p>Eating well isn’t about education. Most people, even young people, are well aware of “good foods” and “bad foods”. To a great extent, poor dietary habits are due to a deluge of commercials, promotions and advertisements that target America’s weakness for fast food. It is difficult for willpower to overcome desire when a juicy burger and crispy fries are associated with family fun and good times. It isn’t an accident that you never see an overweight person in a McDonald’s or Burger King ad. Look around the next time you’re in one of those restaurants and see the condition of those who really eat there.<span id="more-2083"></span></p>
<p>It has been suggested that the way we can overcome the fast-paced fat onslaught is to treat dangerous eating the same way we treat smoking cigarettes. Tax it higher, show surgeon general warnings in all advertising, even eliminate soft drinks and fast food options from school lunch menus. People are not going to suddenly change their behavior all by themselves. For most Americans under the age of 40, fast food has been a part of their lifestyle since birth. “Supersize” is expected and regular sized portions now seem too small. “Value” comes with abundance yet American’s spend billions of dollars a year trying to lose weight…WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?</p>
<p>Unfortunately, we live under a false-belief umbrella that what we eat won’t really affect our health even though it’s food that keeps our machine running. Diseases like cancer touches just about every family in some way, yet people still don’t take a daily antioxidant. We don’t tend to think preventively…we never have time. But, if we don’t start taking responsibility for ourselves and our families, our time will soon run out.</p>
<p>Be pro-active about making a change. If eating fast food is a regular occurrence in your household, begin to limit the experience. Push yourself and your family members to try new food options and pay attention to how much better you feel when you eat right. As hard as it may seem at the moment, you can actually retrain your tastebuds to prefer healthier foods and is it ever worth it!</p>

But, the key to long-term weight loss success and breaking the yo-yo dieting syndrome is restructuring your eating.</p>
<p>If you create a healthy eating program that you like, fits into your lifestyle and does not deny you your favorite foods, you will be able to maintain the same eating habits while you are losing unwanted pounds and inches as you will once you reach your weight loss goal. Temporary dietary changes only means temporary weight loss results. Who wants that???? Most Fit America customers feel like they have lost thousands of pounds in their lifetime and probably have. SO STOP IT!<span id="more-2078"></span></p>
<p>Chronic dieting is not only dangerous to your overall health, it doesn’t work. When you gain and lose the same number of pounds over and over again, your body tends to lose lean muscle but it gains back fat. This means you are about 9% larger every time you regain unwanted pounds and hit the same weight again. If you do this yo-yo act 5 times, you will find yourself at the same physical size at your LOW as you originally were at your HIGH! In other words, if you were a size 10 and weighed 145 pounds and you gained 40 pounds making you a size 16, then lost the 40, gained it back, lost it again, gained it back and played this game with your body 5 times, the fifth time you hit your LOW of 145 pounds, you would find yourself still wearing a size 16! Yo Yo dieting like this causes an extreme increase in a person’s body fat percentage which is further aggravated if you don’t exercise.</p>

<p>We all know that each of us become more motivated to start a weight loss program when we have made a conscious decision to do something about how we look. When we&#8217;re walking around in shorts, the motivation seems to grow that much faster! Hot days tend to keep our diets cleaner and leaner. Although most of us hate drinking water, you&#8217;ll be surprised to know that it is a natural appetite suppressant while it helps the body metabolize stored fat. Donald Robertson, M.D. tells us that studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.</p>
<p>Think about your body as a machine. The better the machine&#8217;s maintenance, the more efficiently it operates. Water aids kidney function. When the kidneys do not work to their capacity, the overload is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver&#8217;s primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body.
